What do I study on the course?

Your English course will consist of a mix of different activities. In the mornings you will spend much of the time studying structures, vocabulary and different expressions while the sessions after break or lunch will concentrate on speaking and listening skills. If you study for more than 3 weeks you will be given a list of topics that you will cover in your course. top

Where is the school?

Our school is situated in the heart of Edinburgh very near the main shopping and business areas of Edinburgh. Edinburgh castle is only about 10 minutes walk from the school while Edinburgh's main street "Princes Street" is about 5 minutes walk away. The area is one of Edinburgh's most beautiful and it is cleaner and better kept than much of the city. top

How many people will I have in my class?

Our groups are usually quite small (only about 7 or 8 students) but we have a maximum class size of 14 so that you can be sure you will get a lot of personal attention. top

Do you help me find accommodation?

We can provide homestay accommodation in a local private household. See the accommodation section for more details. top

Can you help me find a job in Scotland?

If you would like to work after doing a course in Edinburgh we can assist with things like writing a CV, advising you about job vacancies and helping you with interview techniques. top

Who are the other students in my class?

Our students come from all over the world so your classmates could be from all 4 corners of the Earth. We believe that multi-national classes are good for you because you must speak to each other in English and you learn a lot about other cultures at the same time. top

Do I get a certificate after my course?

Yes. All students who complete one of our courses will receive a certificate at the end of their stay with us. In addition, we will give you a report to say how we feel that you have done on the course. top

What is IELTS FCE CAE CPE etc..?

These are exams that are moderated by Cambridge University Examinations board. They can help you to secure a job or promotion in your own country or to find work and study at University in English speaking countries. You can also do these exams for personal satisfaction so that you know how well you are progressing in your English studies. top

Do you help me get a visa to study in the UK?

If you are a genuine student wishing to do a full time English course with us we are able to issue you with a registration letter after you have registered on a course. This letter may or may not help your student visa application. We are registered on "The Register of Education and Training Providers" (external website) but please note that this does NOT guarantee that you will get a visa to study in the UK. We are NOT able to give advice on how to get a visa or to help prospective students complete application forms other than in sections where we are obliged to do so. top

What happens if I want to leave my course?

If you would like to leave your course before you have finished it then we are unable to give a refund unless you can provide good reason for doing so. We will, of course, refund course fees in all cases of tragedy and in cases where the student has paid for a course but fails to obtain a visa. TLI will consider other cases where students ask for a refund but we cannot guarantee a refund except in the cases mentioned above. Students who have a UK student visa will be reported to the UK government Home Office if they do not attend their course. You are, of course, welcome to transfer to another school in the UK if you are not happy with us but we are confident that you will enjoy your stay with us. top

How old do I have to be to do an English course?

At the moment we only accept students who are at least 16 years old at the time they start their course. Sorry if you are younger but why not do a course with us when you reach 16? top
